Podcasts, people. PODCASTS.
For my first resource post, I want to share four of my all-time favorite podcasts with you guys. I've found that listening to podcasts has helped to redeem so much time I may have squandered otherwise. Whether I'm washing dishes, driving in the car, walking around my neighborhood, or doing a workout, when I listen to podcasts, my spirit and mind are drawn toward thoughts of God. I am compelled to examine different areas of my life and choose growth over complacency.
If you're not an avid podcast listener, don't be intimidated! I've heard lots of people say they don't even know how to go about downloading and listening to podcasts. It is doable and it is worthwhile. You can even contact me and I'll help you get going. Seriously!
That being said...
I cannot fully convey to you all just how much podcasts have changed my life, especially in this past year as I've become a mama (these podcasts are not just for mamas, FYI!). That may sound super dramatic and overboard, but the fact of the matter is that these podcasts I'm sharing with you have had a tremendous impact on my life and have actually changed the way I live and act. By the grace of God, the wisdom, insight and practical application found in these podcasts have taken root in my heart and have produced fruit in my life.
Each one of these podcasts I'm recommending is Gospel-centered and in line with biblical truth. I sincerely hope that you will take the time to download some of these podcasts and listen. I have no doubt that you will be blessed! Here are some quick little reviews to draw you in even more!
Note: I've linked each title to the podcast website for your convenience.
The Journeywomen Podcast is hosted by the beautiful, humble and wise Hunter Beless. Now, I don't know Hunter personally, but through her podcast I feel like I've gained a mentor and friend. God has given her the gift of articulating the grace and truth of God's word across a variety of everyday life topics. Hunter's goal for this podcast is to provide "Truth-filled encouragement for women." She accomplishes this each week though interviews that "discuss gracefully navigating the seasons and challenges we face on our journeys to glorify God."
This podcasts is applicable for women in any and every season of life. Whether you are a new mama like myself, a student, a single woman, or an empty-nester, there is wisdom and insight to be gleaned. I've recently seen multiple women on instagram asking for podcast recommendations, and the Jouneywomen Podcast has been my go-to recommendation.
A few of my favorite episodes:
-Ep.6 : Relating to Your Emotions with Amy Waters.
- Ep. 34 Spiritual Disciplines with Brad Evangelista.
- Ep. 36 Biblical Literacy for Women with Kristin Schumucker.
The Dad Tired Podcast is hosted by the down to earth, funny and passionate Jerrad Lopes. Jerrad is a husband and father who has a heart for "helping men stumble their way through spiritual leadership." Those are his words, not mine! If that doesn't show his humility and down-to-earthedenss, I don't know what does. This guy is so transparent about his own struggles and stumbling points, and I think that fact is what is so inviting and encouraging for men ( + really anyone- women included). The Dad Tired episodes are short and really pack a punch as far as getting to the truth of various topics and giving practical application. Jerrad always brings his listeners back to the truth of the Gospel and the calling God has placed on the lives of husbands and fathers. This podcasts is the perfect commute companion for all those guys looking to redeem that drive time and grab hold of a spiritual growth opportunity. (P.S. My Husband is a fan of this one).
A few of my favorite episodes:
- Lead your Family: 3 Practical ways.
- The Butterfly Effect
- Foster Adoption and the Gospel
Risen Motherhood is hosted by the dynamic sister-in-law duo Laura Wifler and Emily Jensen. Anyone who listens to this podcast will credit these women with the God-given ability to take the Gospel and apply it to virtually any topic. Their platform provides, "A place to be encouraged in intentional motherhood, give grace not guilt, and remember the gospel impacts everything we do."
These mamas have encouraged me to look at my role as a wife and mother in light of the Gospel. So much of this sanctifying process of motherhood can be lost in the exhaustion, overwhelming weight of the future, and mundane daily tasks if we are not careful to draw our attention back to the Gospel where we find purpose, encouragement, strength, and forgiveness for the times we will inevitably fail.
The Risen Motherhood episodes are only about 20 minutes long and are perfect for busy mothers. Again, don't let the length of time mislead you, these episodes are an absolute wealth of knowledge that will compel you to live out your calling in the grace that God gives.
A few of my favorites:
- Ep. 66 : How Humility Nourishes a Weary Mom's Soul with Hannah Anderson
- Ep. 70 : Is Motherhood Your Measure of Success?
- Ep. Coffee, Wine, & Social media: Momma, What's your Crutch?
Fresh Life Church is a Montana-based church pastored by the fiery, eloquent, enthusiastic Levi Lusko. Pastor Levi is absolutely passionate about sharing the Gospel and bringing the Truth of the Word of God to the masses. He is a gifted teacher and his vigor for following after Christ with reckless abandon is contagious. I've been following along with Pastor Levi's sermons for the past several years and His famiy's story is one that is so close to my heart. I'm thankful for the encouragement I've received through His commitment to the Lord despite the hardship God has allowed in his life. His consistency in teaching the Word and calling us as followers of Christ further upward and inward to truly live for the Kingdom of God has been a needed challenge for my spirit.
A few of my favorite series (titles are linked):
That's it for now. I hope you'll venture out and give these a listen. You won't regret it!
