It’s loud. So loud. Not audibly loud. The kind of loud that’s on the inside. The noise that clouds your thinking, bringing your mind to a slow halt. Paralysis of the brain sets in, leaving you wondering what tasks are important and what can be left undone, if only for the moment. Pulled in opposite directions, you constantly battle between doing the urgent thing or the one that is more significant in the long run. Then, there are the opinions of others. A low, and seemingly constant hum, adding to the commotion. You’re frustrated, but you know you shouldn’t take it personally. People are vocalizing from a place of love and care. Nonetheless, their words are adding to the overwhelming feeling that you are falling short. You know in your intellect that you are doing your best, and there’s just so much that’s beyond your control. But, there is trouble translating that reality to your spirit. The disconnect allows the anxiety to seep in. Oh… that anxiety. It’s like the fuel you use to drive your attempt to rein in the fallout.
You understand that grasping at control is like trying to grab hold of the wind. But for some reason, you still try. Flapping and flailing you try, desperately, to harness the beast called life. It’s been ingrained in humanity since the fall. From the moment in the garden when they wanted to know more, to be more, to control more. To try to tame life in all its aspects. To live in a perpetual state of comfort, setting things in place, nice and neat, ensuring nothing can go wrong. It’s a lie. It’s a mirage; a goal that never will and never should be attained. If it were, you would be worse off because of it. Why? Because, it would be all that you had. A neat, tidy and predictable existence. It’s what you think you need but, in reality, it is what you need least of all. What you need is beyond the confines of this world. What you need is far greater than predictability and the allusion of safety.
What you need is Him. The One who created all and conquered all. The One who holds it all. Don’t fall into a trap of longing only for what He gives. You need Him for who He is. His presences silences the noise. He exercises authority over the storms; those of the natural world and those raging in your heart and mind. He brings a stillness that causes the scales to fall from your weary, world-ridden eyes and see what you have been blind to…Truth.
That Truth is Him. He will be your lens and everything will change.
Because, you see…
With Him, the more you let go, the more security you’ll find. With Him, the looser your grip, the more firmly you will feel His touch. With Him, you won’t be drowning in the noise, you will be overflowing with a song. And best of all, with Him, you won’t grasp at the wind anymore, because you will be too busy delighting in the fact that you are holding the hand of the One who breathed very life into existence. You will find that the life worth living is not the one of comfort and control. You will finally see that it is so much more worthwhile to ride out the bumps, twists and turns with your hands outstretched and your arms lifted high because there is beauty, joy and peace in the One who is holding you.
In view of God’s mercy,
